Madness! The year 2019 has barely started and the first quarter is already over. I’ve been on my journey to become an Embedded Application Developer for some time now, and I’m super excited to have you join me!

Now is a good time to reflect on the journey so far. It’s important to be aware of your successes and be clear if the direction is still right.

What have we experienced and learned in the last few months?

The quarterly report

At the beginning of the year, we looked at the five different roles within the embedded product development team. That was a very important step. This is where I chose my entry point into the gigantic world of embedded systems. And what is at least as important: I know where I want to go.

I’m going to be an Embedded Application Developer.

After that, there was the big plan. We looked at what all was needed to achieve my goal. From that, we came up with a roadmap for this journey.

But before we started, we delved deeper into Embedded-Systems architecture. That’s where we learned about all the components. Based on that, I was able to better decide which area I want to focus on.

Hopefully you were able to make a decision for yourself as well.

So the basic questions are settled. We know where we are going, what all is involved, and what we need to do it.

The first essential skill is to master a primary programming language. My choice fell on C++.

Learning a programming language is easy to say, but the effort involved should not be underestimated. To somehow get a grip on the huge scope and understand C++ from the ground up, we started the first series of posts on Basics.

At the end of the quarter, there was a thematic insertion. We paused the series briefly as the immensely important Editor’s Question came up.

Let’s move on!

The last months were very instructive and led to fundamental decisions. With big steps my journey started and the chosen direction feels right.

But these are not the only progress. The blog is also growing and got a glossary. There you’ll find explanations of abbreviations, acronyms, and technical terms we’ve encountered.

This review leaves only one conclusion: It can go on like this!

I wish you maximum success!
